Cognos takes ReportNet to 9 000 customers in global road show

Johannesburg, 12 Nov 2003

Cognos has emerged as the world leader in enterprise reporting after showcasing its now ReportNet solution to more than 9 000 customers, prospects and influencers in a global road show.

Adopted worldwide as an enterprise reporting standard by organisations such as Fujisawa Europe, Syngenta, Alfred Publishing and Manugistics, Cognos ReportNet has been called a "major breakthrough for business intelligence and reporting convergence" by Ventana Research.

Since 9 September, the reporting solution has been demonstrated to thousands in 31 cities around the globe during the worldwide launch Webcast, Enterprise 2003 Business Forums and regional events.

"The South African launch of ReportNet was as successful as it was in the rest of the world," says David McWilliam, MD of Cognos South Africa. "We have secured our first sales in this country, and prospective clients have embraced ReportNet with the same enthusiasm we have seen elsewhere in the world. We fully expect ReportNet to become the enterprise reporting standard in SA over the next year."

Cognos ReportNet gives organisations, for the first time, an all-in-one, single-vendor enterprise reporting solution that offers pixel-perfect, high-quality production reports, ad hoc query, and complex, compound operational reporting.

Cognos ReportNet eliminates the need for multiple reporting tools and the resulting costs due to duplicated training, maintenance, administration, servers, support, and lack of consistency in the information users need to make decisions.

Gartner says Global 2000 companies are looking to drive "a uniform BI strategy throughout the enterprises. Many of these enterprises are forming BI competency centres to drive strategic implementations and foster best practices. Often, this includes consolidation and standardisation of tools."

"Cognos ReportNet will allow Fujisawa to standardise all of our reporting requirements on a single solution, and significantly reduce the time to author key reports for business user consumption," says Nicola Marangoni, business intelligence/data warehouse manager, Fujisawa GmbH.

"The key for us was the `self-service` nature of the Cognos ReportNet authoring environment. The drag-and-drop functionality will enable our business users to create the reports they need in minutes. Cognos ReportNet`s easy authentication and open security also set Cognos apart, given the sensitivity of our data."

"Previously multiple report instances and server instances were required to support multiple languages. Now ReportNet can accomplish the same task with one report from one server. The ownership cost savings implications for multi-national companies are potentially large with this feature," comments Eric Rogge, VP and research director, Ventana Research.
