Cognos, the world leader in business intelligence (BI) and corporate performance management (CPM), has expanded its commitment to the IBM DB2 product family by announcing support for DB2 Information Integrator.
Based on open standards, DB2 Information Integrator helps businesses access and integrate data in real-time. The system can access data wherever it resides and in whatever format, whether e-mail, XML, multimedia, Web services and also from competitive data sources such as Oracle and Microsoft databases.
"Cognos`s business intelligence solutions, built on the database infrastructure layer provided by IBM DB2 Universal Database, offer the benefit of flexible, intuitive data access tools integrated with an efficient, automated data management process," says David McWilliam, MD of Cognos SA. "A typical Cognos-DB2 Universal Database solution includes components from the Cognos Enterprise BI Series 7 suite, which brings together a broad range of BI capabilities including managed reporting, analysis, ad hoc query, scorecarding, visualisation, ETL and event detection.
"By supporting the DB2 product family, we are allowing users of Cognos BI Series 7 to discover new ways of meeting their CPM requirements," adds McWilliam. "With functionality such as seamless views of multiple disparate data sources and querying across databases, DB2 Information Integrator provides an open, extensible and consistent information integration framework for access to business-critical content."
The federated data access capabilities of DB2 Information Integrator extend Cognos`s reach to include non-relational data sources such as any remote SOAP Web Service, flat files and XML files. Additionally, by accessing message queues, Cognos NoticeCast can monitor real-time data within organisations that have EAI (enterprise application integration) systems.
Designed for customers needing critical elements of business activity monitoring (BAM) and guided analysis, NoticeCast users can define personalised business alerts that can be delivered to any e-mail-enabled device.
Lauren Flaherty, VP of marketing, IBM Data Management Solutions, adds: "With Cognos business intelligence solutions and DB2 Information Integrator, businesses can reliably integrate and reconcile the widely dispersed customer data that resides in enterprise applications as well as unstructured document collections across channels, geographies and business units."
In April, Cognos and IBM announced a multi-year global agreement to market comprehensive business intelligence offerings. The IBM and Cognos offering makes use of IBM DB2 Universal Database, DB2 Warehouse Manager, DB2 OLAP Server, IBM WebSphere Internet infrastructure software and IBM WebSphere Portal software.
