Cognos, a business intelligence and corporate performance management (CPM) vendor, has extended its market leadership in major enterprise accounts, announcing that Amazon.com has chosen Cognos as a provider of business intelligence and enterprise planning solutions worldwide through a multi-year agreement.
Amazon will use Cognos ReportNet on Linux and Cognos PowerPlay to provide a reporting and analytical platform. The company will also be deploying integrated Cognos Planning solutions for its finance and operational organisations.
"Cognos will provide us with the ability to improve both the collaboration and efficiency of our reporting processes as well as enable a more integrated view of the enterprise," says Ken Collins, director, Data Warehouse, Amazon.com. "The company`s commitment to Linux, the solution`s Web services architecture and its open data strategy were all key factors to our selection."
Cognos` corporate performance management (CPM) solution is comprised of a comprehensive business intelligence solution; industry-leading software for planning, budgeting, modelling, forecasting and financial consolidation; and the most robust and flexible enterprise score carding solution. Cognos ReportNet, which is fully integrated with the Cognos Enterprise Business Intelligence (EBI) Series and with Cognos Enterprise Planning, offers a complete Web-based report and query authoring environment. Its extensive multilingual support and modern Web services architecture meets the needs of today`s multinational, diversified enterprises and dramatically reduces total cost of ownership. Designed to scale to hundreds of thousands of users, Cognos ReportNet draws upon Cognos reporting and query leadership to deliver the next evolution of reporting.
Linux provides extremely cost-effective support for that scalability by making it easy to add low-cost, high value performance and computing power to Cognos implementations.
Says David McWilliam, managing director of Cognos SA: "Local e-commerce businesses face similar challenges to their international counterparts and understand that access to information -- such as buying trends -- assists in organisational planning for the future. CPM solutions that encompass enterprise planning, scorecarding and BI provide e-commerce businesses with a holistic view of the organisation and its performance, highlighting areas that need to be maintained or adjusted to meet targets. E-commerce giant Amazon.com is testimony that Cognos delivers the industry`s broadest, most complete performance management solutions, allowing organisations to address the many challenges they face both in analysing massive volumes of business information and driving that information across the enterprise."
