Cognos, a business intelligence and performance management solutions vendor, has received two highly acclaimed international awards - a Stevie Award, hailed by the New York Post as the business world's own Oscars, for Best Product Development Team, as well as a "Best Midmarket Strategy" accolade from the Midsize Enterprise Summit Europe Event recently held in Paris, France.
The Stevie Award recognised the Cognos product development team for its R&D initiatives in the past year, particularly for the innovative development of the Cognos 8 Go! consumer modes.
Extensions to the Cognos 8 Business Intelligence platform, the consumer modes - including Cognos 8 Go! Mobile, Cognos 8 Go! Search and Cognos 8 Go! Office - help improve decision-making and increase business intelligence user adoption rates within an organisation by letting users view and consume reports, analysis and other BI content using familiar applications or devices, such as the BlackBerry wireless platform from Research in Motion (RIM), search engines, MS Office applications, or Web browsers.
"We have always fostered a culture of innovation here at Cognos," says Peter Griffiths, senior vice-president: products at Cognos. "The Cognos product development team has achieved continued success this past year in delivering first-to-market solutions purpose-built for industry-leading partners such as Google, RIM and IBM. This award is a validation of the innovative spirit and drive required to fuel these efforts."
Recipients of International Stevie Award trophies were selected from more than 1 000 nominations received from companies and individuals in more than 30 countries.
In addition, Cognos won the award for "Best Midmarket Strategy" at the Midsize Enterprise Summit Europe Event held from 26 to 28 June in Paris, France.
The IT executives in attendance review many products and services at Midsize Enterprise Summit Europe. A Midsize Enterprise Innovation Award signifies that the attendees felt the winners displayed a surpassing level of excellence for IT technology providers in their category. The "Midsize Enterprise Innovation Awards" are the only industry awards voted on solely by leading midmarket IT executives.
Says Dave Laverty, chief marketing officer at Cognos: "We believe this award is a clear validation of our vision to help customers of all sizes drive business performance. This is seen with our new Cognos Now! solution, which allows us to provide mid-market customers with immediate visibility and insight into how their business is performing at a lower total cost of ownership. The solution is not yet available in South Africa, but will be announced as soon as the local office is able to offer it to its partners and customers."
Midsize Enterprise Summit brings senior IT executives from midsize businesses together with Gartner analysts and leading and emerging technology providers. The focus, enabling strategic IT decision-making, embraces midmarket-specific issues, trends and solutions from a horizontal and vertical industry-specific perspective. The business-intensive format includes Gartner-led sessions, technology provider-led world premiere and private boardroom appointments, a showcase of exhibits and networking functions.
