Colour printing now available to all verticals

Johannesburg, 05 Nov 2008

Specialised printing has traditionally meant the likes of architects, designers and media companies spending large amounts of money on specialised printers that meet their demands. Because of the limited market for these devices they have been very expensive. But now professional printers are available at lower prices that can be used in many verticals.

Neil Rom, managing director of Printacom - sole local brand representative and importer of OKI Printing Solutions in South Africa, believes that the printing market has evolved in terms of specialised printing and that the use of colour printing can be used to the advantage of many niche markets without necessarily requiring specialised solutions.

“Plotters and other expensive, specialised printers are still in wide use, but vertical markets can do very well with more general printers considering the sophistication of current print technology and reduced prices,” he opines.

“I recently reviewed the plans for a house and realised how much clearer they could have been if colour printing was used,” explains Rom. “And while specialised colour printers are available for architects and draftsmen, they are expensive, and so are the consumables, as the demand is lower.”

“But professional colour laser printers are available that would be perfect for the job and can print in sizes up to A3. With OKI printers it is also simple to split an A0-sized print over four A3 pages. This would be a far cheaper way of printing plans, for example, and for the reviewing needs of clients, smaller prints are perfect and more convenient,” he says. “Clients need to look over plans to approve them and must be able to clearly identify elements of the plans. A3 prints are perfect for this purpose and the use of colour can save money in the long run as expensive building corrections can be avoided.”

“Colour printing can be gained and used at an affordable price for printing materials used in interfacing with clients, such as mock-ups of buildings and plans that use colour to clearly show where plug points and other elements are placed. And because spot-colour is used in the printing of plans, the costs would be minimal,” adds Rom.

Printacom has financed professional OKI colour laser printers available from R399 per month, perfect for use in any environment and offering unbeatable value for colour printing.
