COLT expands managed security offering for corporates, SMEs with firewall service from DiData

Johannesburg, 14 Jun 2001

In a move that significantly strengthens its Internet security solutions, COLT Telecom Group plc and Dimension Data Holdings plc have announced an agreement that will see COLT offer Dimension Data`s fully managed, proactive firewall monitoring service, resulting in a new COLT interSecure product family.

The service will be available through DiData`s Global Services Operating Architecture (GSOA), which provides real time, online security management.

COLT InterSecure Managed Firewall provides customers with a fully managed 24 by 7 security solution and firewall maintenance agreement. Subsequently, the customer`s security appliances are continuously monitored, proactively ensuring the uptime and integrity of the devices.

Each managed Firewall is supplied with a secure alternative connection to troubleshoot problems, check connectivity and analyse other reported problems. Configuration and security policy changes are audited and securely applied. Customers are able to view firewall logs and statistics in real-time using a secure security portal.

"As the Internet and intranet extend ever deeper into every aspect of business, proactive security management will be of paramount importance to every enterprise," says Rob Mainor, COLT Internet Managing Director. "Our InterSecure portfolio is yet another value-added service that perfectly complements our expanding range of high-performance managed e-services.

Together, they mean that COLT continues to set new standards for secure, resilient Internet facilities that enable company managers to place the Internet at the core of their activities, safe in the knowledge that their network will be fully protected round-the-clock from unwelcome intrusion.

Available since the end of May in the Netherlands and Germany (Frankfurt, Berlin and Hamburg) and by the end of June in Belgium, the product is aimed at customers wishing to manage their Internet security and at the same time reduce the need for expensive, internal security expertise.

Buma Stemra in the Netherlands, a well-known union for music copyrights and Stylepark in Frankfurt, an interior design studio, are some of the companies that have already taken up the service. The offering will be expanded to include more European locations throughout the summer.

"Our Pan European offering for COLT will be delivered through our GSOA platform, which enables effective online services on a global basis," says Jean-Marc Jefferson, Director Strategic global business, Dimension Data Europe.

"Through the ability to provide its customers with instant online access to network security, performance monitoring and resolution of any problems, COLT undoubtedly has a competitive advantage within the European telecommunications market and we look forward to working with COLT to ensure effective delivery of these seamless managed security services across Europe."
