Informix, a provider of software infrastructure for the i.economy, says it has released the industry`s first XML Document Type Definition (DTD) for extraction, transformation and transport (ETT) of metadata.
Informix says its XML DTD for ETT metadata allows users to read and write XML metadata based on the DTD, making the language more universal.
"XML has become the preferred medium for exchanging data and metadata in Web environments," says Dereck Daymond, MD of Informix, Middle East and Africa. "Yet little attention has been given to the need for an XML-based standard - namely, a DTD for ETT - that can enable metadata integration for these exchanges. He says as more companies begin operating as e-businesses, the need for XML-based metadata integration strategy will intensify.
Informix`s DTD will enable more complete metadata sharing, easing business-to-business collaboration and facilitating the integration of disparate tools within the enterprise. The latest announcement builds on Informix`s open metadata strategy and addresses the need for a published XML standard for ETT metadata.
"Informix`s goal is to eliminate the problem of disconnected metadata environments. By supporting XML as a standard metadata schema, we are giving our customers the ability to combine best-of-breed tools across the enterprise, providing them with the critical components for competing in the business-to-business arena," says Daymond.
