Commerce One SA has announced MarketSite Africa, an e-marketplace linking Southern African buyers and suppliers to Commerce One`s Global Trading Web, touted as the world`s largest business-to-business (B2B) trading community.
All transactions and services at the e-marketplace are automated, and real-time price and availability checks, purchase orders, order tracking and payments are possible.
In addition, MarketSite Africa makes business document exchange between applications possible, supports data conversion between different document standards, and offers multiple protocol support, including secure HTTP, SMTP and FTP.
Auctions, logistics, tax and payment services are some of the value-added capabilities built into the technology behind MarketSite Africa.
"Southern Africa`s buyers and suppliers can reduce their procurement costs as well as increase their revenues when they access new local and global markets at MarketSite Africa," says Michael Bosman, CEO of Commerce One South Africa.
"MarketSite Africa to date has 8 500 supplier catalogues and is already hosting transactions for significant numbers of Sasol users, Commerce One South Africa`s first announced customer.
"Sasol has experienced real benefits from e-procurement through MarketSite Africa`s infrastructure.
"To successfully expand (B2B) e-commerce in Southern Africa and Africa as a whole, both buyer and supplier must be able to easily access a trading environment that makes it easy to buy and sell across the Internet. The infrastructure is in place, it is robust and trade is growing on a daily basis."
