Venture Communications, a company that has rolled out both IT and telecommunications infrastructures in a number of sub-Saharan countries, is to open a South African division.

"We felt the time was right to target the South African market and have formed Venture Communications SA as the vehicle to do this," says CEO Keith Boyd.

Boyd was previously a director of the DNS Group, a company subsequently acquired by Dimension . He was also a sales director at Plessey Business Solutions, another DiData subsidiary.

"Venture SA will have two focus areas, namely the IT infrastructure market and that of the telco edge market, involving base stations for cellular communications," he says.

Venture has previously completed infrastructure development projects in Angola, Botswana, Cameroon, Congo, DRC, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Nigeria, Rwanda, Swaziland, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

Boyd says that while the company will be able to draw on the experience from its operations throughout Africa, the South African market is somewhat different. "SA has a more sophisticated market and it is also a highly competitive arena, so we will be working hard over the next few months to establish ourselves."

Heading the local company is MD Shathi Govender, who will also fill the role of financial director.

Govender says Venture will target business in the larger corporate environment as well as telecommunications, government and parastatal organisations.

"We are actively involved in discussions with partners who will add value and complement our offerings in this space. Obviously our partners know and understand the local markets, and this is one of the keys to a successful operation."
