Intuate Group, a privately owned, broad-based IT company and local reseller of the CommVault suite of unified data management products, is pleased to announce CommVault's new capacity-based licensing model, which provides flexibility to existing protection and archive software solutions.
“The increasing complexities associated with today's rate of data growth require new and innovative ways to manage and simplify protection and archiving capabilities,” says Mark Edwards, director of product and services at Intuate Group. “It is because of these needs that CommVault has introduced a new licensing model to its partners and customers that will offer increased flexibility and simplify the management of their data environment.”
The new model is based on CommVault's current Simpana software backup and content archiving licensing models, where pricing is dependent on the amount of data required and used. The Simpana platform is now offered in three basic dimensions, namely Data Protection, Data Archive and Search/eDiscovery.
“CommVault's next-generation data management platform greatly simplifies the ability to manage overall capacity that is being protected - making a capacity-based licensing agreement (CLA) an attractive option,” explains Edwards. “A CLA provides the flexibility to deploy application licences at will, rather than engaging the procurement cycle for one-off purchase requests.”
Licence capacity is encoded into the licensing key. This is measured via a dashboard mechanism that provides an automatic, progressive alert when maximum capacity is being approached - at 85%, 100% and 110%. This monitoring feature helps with planning for future capacity buys.
All settings are configurable and are reassessed daily, so adjustments can be made as needed to afford maximum flexibility to clients. Says Edwards: “All architectural options are available based on organisational needs, whether the preference is for numerous departmental solutions or a centralised data protection platform.”
High availability data protection solutions and data security on protected data are often expensive features that can require difficult decisions on a cost/benefit analysis basis. CommVault's CLAs eliminate those tough choices by providing a range of high availability options (CommCell Disaster Recovery, Gridstor Multi-pathing, Deduplication Aware Replication, and 1-Touch System Recovery) as well as data security options (Data Encryption for in-flight data and CommCell Data Erasure).
The wider use of the Simpana product suite, combined with the right of exchange between licensing keys, enables a wide selection of product features that can be customised to a company's specific needs.
The audit capability is built into the licensing key and easily accessible, empowering the end-user to self-monitor usage and deploy additional resources as needed, in plenty of time.
