Compaq announces Distributor Alliance Programme

Johannesburg, 22 Sep 1999

In line with international trends, Compaq in South Africa has announced its Distributor Alliance Programme (DAP) designed to streamline distribution and improve delivery time to customers.

Effective September 1st, Compaq will actively encourage its direct partners to purchase products from Compaq`s three local distributors - Tarsus Technologies, Siltek Distribution Dynamics, and Mustek International - rather than directly from Compaq. This will streamline distribution without affecting the relationship to which direct partners have been accustomed.

"Essentially the programme concentrates our stock holding at distributor level making the business less complex and easier to . We will also be able to forecast and manage inventory levels more accurately," says Louis Seyffert, channel manager at Compaq.

"In the past stock was spread over a number of different points making it more difficult to manage and control. Our three distributors have the capacity to carry large inventories as well as modern infrastructures to do accurate forecasting and expedite delivery," says Seyffert.

He says that because a large portion of Compaq business is derived from direct partners, distributors now have the potential to dramatically increase their Compaq revenue.. The increased local stockholding as a result of the DAP will mean that end users will experience faster delivery times.
