Compaq at the forefront of the wireless networking wave, says SDD

Johannesburg, 04 Sep 2001

Compaq is at the forefront of the wireless networking revolution with a range of products that address wireless wide area networking (WWAN), wireless local area networking (WLAN) and wireless personal area networking (WPAN). That's according to Amanda Saurma-Jeltsch, product manager for Compaq at leading Southern African distributor SDD.

"Compaq has taken a holistic approach to wireless networking - the next revolution in device interconnection," states Saurma-Jeltsch. She explains that Compaq has designed products to interact wirelessly and seamlessly at all points in the enterprise.

WWAN is enabled with the increasingly popular iPaq handheld device - figures from UK market watcher Canalys (www.canalys.com) show that the iPaq is snatching a massive slice of the market with sales jumping by over 1 000% quarter on quarter. "The iPaq PDA allows the user to access e-mail, the Internet and your corporate network wirelessly, enabling uninterrupted access and productivity no matter where your work takes you," she says, adding that the iPaq features modular expansion bays that allow the user to configure the device to their specific needs.

Compaq Armada notebook PCs - which are among the world's favourite portables - allow wireless connectivity with the addition of Compaq's WL Series of wireless LAN products. "Users can roam freely within their work environments, while staying connected to the corporate LAN at all times - wires no longer restrict workers to their desks with this robust wireless networking solution," states Saurma-Jeltsch.

Bluetooth, which is geared to take the market by storm, is another technology that Compaq has embraced. "The personal area network is rapidly becoming a reality. This allows users to keep several devices connected using Bluetooth's short wave spectrum," she says. Saurma-Jeltsch adds that the benefits of Bluetooth include the ability for devices to spontaneously communicate, synchronise and exchange data.

"Compaq is leading the race into the connected future with a range of solutions and products that address the technology user's every need," she concludes.
