Johannesburg, , 06 Jul 2000

Compaq Computer Europe, Middle East and Africa today announced the release of its latest lightweight projectors, the Compaq MP1400 and Compaq MP1800 Microportable Projectors. These new products are designed to meet the needs of an increasingly mobile workforce by incorporating powerful high-resolution projection in the smallest portable format on the market. The projectors are available immediately with prices starting at R32,896.001.

The Microportable range of projectors are aimed at sales and marketing executives or trainers delivering presentations to small to medium sized audiences, typically those with less than 30 people. The projector offers a new simplified design, a brighter picture and a rich range of features.

Key Features:

  • Ultimate Portability

: Size: 2.9 dm3 and 1.9 Kg - which can easily fit into most notebook carrying cases along with the notebook

  • High quality picture

: 700 ANSI lumens ensures good level of projection, even in well-lit rooms. The contrast ratio is more than twice that of most LCD projectors.

  • Resolution

: native SVGA on the MP1400, XGA and integrated zoom lens on the MP1800.

  • `Plug and present`

    - Automatic Synchronisation eliminates setup and configuration problems. This feature ensures instant recognition of the host PC and adjusts automatically to the necessary settings on virtually any portable or desk based PC on the market.

  • Pricing

    : R32,896.001 for the MP1400 and R47,206.001 for the MP1800.

The projectors also offer multimedia capabilities. Included on the MP1800 and available as an option on the MP1400, the multimedia adapter offers a built-in eight-watt `PremieroSound` speaker system, allowing users to present full-motion video from a PC, VCR, DVD or camcorder and picture-in-picture viewing. These features are easily addressable by remote control, providing one-touch access to zoom, resynch and other menu adjustments as well.

"Portability is the key to developing the Microprojector market and accessing new customers," said Tony Bicknell, Director, Decision Tree Consulting. "Companies are starting to equip sales forces with highly portable projectors, and these products are well positioned in the under three Kilogram category."
