Compaq offers 90-day money-back guarantee on MA8000/EMA12000 external RAID storage systems from Tarsus

Johannesburg, 10 Sep 2001

Tarsus Technologies, a member of JSE-listed MB Technologies has announced that Compaq is offering a satisfaction guarantee on StorageWorks Modular Array 8000 or Enterprise Modular Array 12000 storage systems on Sun Solaris Server platforms running Solaris 2.6, 7.0 or 8.0.

"Compaq is so confident that customers using Sun servers will be extremely satisfied with the expanded capabilities offered by StorageWorks, that, until 30 September 2001, they are offering a full money back guarantee anytime during the first 90 days following installation," says Andre Wollheim, Compaq product manager at Tarsus Technologies.

"This refund covers the Compaq standard equipment installation charge, 100% of the product costs, including hardware and software, and the monthly maintenance charges incurred for the first 90 days." The MA8000/EMA12000 transitions the RA8000/ESA12000 storage solutions to the new StorageWorks packaging.

MA8000/EMA12000 supports the same features as the existing RA8000/ESA12000 including heterogeneous server and operating system platforms; StorageWorks HSG80 Fibre Channel Controllers; SANworks data and storage management software and maximum single system configuration of up to 72 drives. The maximum system configuration requires only one cabinet due to the new modular controller (Model 2200) and drive enclosures (Models 4200 and 4300).

"The new packaging increases the system modularity and footprint economy without requiring changes to the existing SAN infrastructure or the HSG80," says Wollheim. "The new packaging also allows customers to grow from current to future disk and storage interconnect technology and meets several customer needs"

These include:

* Storage modularity: separate controller and drive components with the highest storage density in the industry.

* Storage Scalability: start with a few Gigabytes and grow to multiple Terabytes.

* Storage Integration: no change is required to the existing SAN infrastructure and controller hardware/software.

* Universal architecture: Universal drive and cabinet support The MA8000/EMA12000 uses the new Compaq StorageWorks disk and controller enclosure architecture.

"This architecture supports different markets with different combinations of components, and is highly modular to provide forward investment protection. The MA8000/EMA12000 is ideal for implementation in new solutions," Wollheim concludes.
