Compaq tackles projector market in earnest with stylish MP2800

With the recent release of its ultra compact MP2800 Microportable Projector, Compaq Computer Corporation is firing a serious salvo at other vendors in this market. That`s according to Terence Barter, product manager for Compaq at Tarsus Technologies.

"The MP2800 defines new standards in the portable projector market. Weighing in at a mere 1.5 kilograms and producing 900 lumens of brightness, this projector is sure to be a firm favourite with mobile executives," declares Barter.

Barter reveals that the machine has already bagged a "Best of Show Award" at COMDEX Fall 2000, a leading technology trade show that took place in Las Vegas in November 2000. Winners of Best of Show awards, selected by ZDNet and C/NET editorial and product review teams are recognized for innovation, usability and functionality. "Paired with an ultra-portable notebook, the total travel weight of this projection solution is still around 3kg," he adds Barter.

Other features of the projector include an 8-watt speaker, an innovative quick-change bulb, HDTV support, and a multimedia adapter for VCRs and DVD players. The machine will be available from Tarsus Technologies from mid to late February. End users can expect to pay around R50 000.
