Comparex Africa partners with NVS to supply Entuity network management products

Johannesburg, 27 Aug 2002

Comparex Africa has been appointed as a Network Visibility Solutions (NVS) Premier channel partner, giving Comparex Africa Networks access to the Entuity network management products, for which NVS is the sole local distributor. Comparex Africa Networks now includes Eye of the Storm, Entuity`s IT infrastructure management product as part of its business focused solutions.

Eye of the Storm is a network management solution designed by and for network operations professionals that manages risk and controls the cost of delivery of network services.

"Comparex Africa has always believed in the importance of making the most out of an organisation`s current IT investment, as confirmed by Gartner`s last Enterprise Management and IT Cost Reduction research note," comments Peter Dixon, executive consultant at Comparex Africa Networks.

"Managing your IT performance requires performance monitoring, capacity planning and tuning. Eye of the Storm offers an out-of-the-box solution that immediately meets this requirement by discovering and maintaining a detailed technology inventory, proactively managing performance, reporting network risk issues by their business impact, and detecting the root cause of network issues. It is a complementary addition to our current portfolio and will allow us to offer a simple yet effective, proactive toolset."

NVS was formed in April 2000 and quickly identified a need for a new breed of network tools that could address a market requirement for proactive rather than reactive and predictive models. It identified Entuity`s product as the right tool to allow organisations to gain control over network infrastructure. "We believe that Entuity`s Eye of the Storm meets many emerging requirements in the network industry, such as staff shortages, the emergence of switched networks and the critical view senior management in SA is taking of networking investments," comments Tony Rolston, managing director for NVS.

Eye of the Storm is a single, cornerstone solution that integrates Performance, Fault and Inventory management in one solution that stands alone or works with an existing platform and tools, reducing the overheads incurred through the deployment of multiple point solutions. StormWorks, the dynamic kernel that underpins the core delivery of the data gathering, storage and presentation services, delivers the integration of any IT infrastructure entity into Eye of the Storm. This means that anything from a network device, end-user, firewall application, database or even an operating system can be quickly integrated into the management environment, without any additional coding.

As highlighted in the Gartner research notes on Enterprise Management and IT Cost Reduction, one of the starting points for cost reduction is obtaining an accurate inventory of what they have and how much is being used. Gartner recommends that by eliminating excess capacity or re-positioning under utilised resources, enterprises are in a better position to cut costs without cutting services or respond to new business requirements without investing in new infrastructure. Eye of the Storm allows organisations to quickly ascertain where these costs can be reduced and how existing infrastructure is being utilised.

Rolston comments: "We`re pleased to have Comparex Africa as a new member of our channel as it is a credible player in the local IT market with an extensive reach into South African and African business."
