Financial systems specialist Comparex Africa Mainstream has added Analyst Financials` report writing module, Analyst, to its GEAC SmartStream product suite, clinching an official reseller agreement.
This is the report from Clive van Rooyen, principal business developer at Comparex Africa Mainstream.
"The GEAC SmartStream product developers have allowed each distributor worldwide to choose their own best suited financial report writing module, and after evaluating all the products available, we have picked Analyst Financials as the product of choice for SA," Van Rooyen says.
Analyst was developed by UK-based Analyst Financials, a subsidiary of the newly formed software developer Timeline Inc.
"We chose Analyst because it is Excel-based, and maximises Excel`s potential. This in turn makes it easier for accountants who are used to using Excel," says Van Rooyen.
"The Analyst interface operates against any ledger, and its scope encapsulates the reporting process as well as reporting functionality," he says. This means it can reduce reporting time scales by automating complex reporting processes from data capture, right through to delivery on the end-user`s desktop.
A distinctive feature of Analyst reporting is the choice of technology platform based on Microsoft`s SQL Server for the reporting applications. The huge popularity of this platform confers a number of benefits on the Analyst reporting solution.
"The advance in computing power means that a relational database environment can accommodate vast volumes of information and aggregate balances on the fly without any noticeable performance penalty. For similar reasons, one would be hard pressed to see the difference in multidimensional capability between an OLAP or a relational database," says Van Rooyen.
Analyst also contains a proprietary and patented technology dubbed its "Universal Filter" which enables data to be imported, and structures such as a chart of accounts - so-called "metadata".
"The filter is probably the single most important and distinguishing feature of Analyst reporting because it automates data capture and ensures that the reporting system is always automatically kept in step with changes in the underlying transaction systems," says Van Rooyen. Current Comparex Africa Mainstream customers in SA using the Analyst Financials report writing module include Metropolitan Life, the SABC and Media 24.
