Competition seeks public sector innovation

The government is encouraging innovation in public with the launch of a competition for the sector.

The CPSI Public Sector Innovation Awards, with prizes totalling R200 000, recognise the success of individuals, teams and institutions in the quest for more effective public service delivery.

The awards, to be held on 7 September, will also provide automatic entry of qualifying award-winners to the United Nations Public Service Awards and the CAPAM Innovation Awards.

"The awards recognise projects and programmes that are directed at improving public service delivery, thus improving the standard of living for South Africans," says Glenda White, executive director of CPSI.

"The CPSI Public Sector Innovation Awards look for individuals who display innovation in their work and go beyond the traditional way of doing things," says White.

Public servants who have effectively incorporated , innovation and professionalism are invited to enter the 2005 CPSI Public Sector Innovation Awards in the following categories:

* Public sector innovator of the year

* Innovative partnerships in service delivery

* Innovative use of IT for effective service delivery

* Innovative service delivery institutions

* Innovative enhancements on internal systems within government

* Innovative service delivery projects involving the South African government in partnership with other African governments

The CPSI identifies and recognises individuals and organisations whose initiatives, undertakings, projects and products are outstanding both in innovation excellence and long-term sustainability.

Nominations for the award can be submitted online before 13 June.
