Compucomp announced as a Microsoft Sub-DSP

Johannesburg, 18 Apr 2000

Leading distributor, Compucomp, has announced it has been appointed as one of only three Sub-DSP (Deliver Service Products) partners for Microsoft SA in South Africa.

In terms of the agreement, Compucomp - renowned as the distributor of the Auwa and LG Electronics range of PCs, laptops and accessories - will be distributing the full range of Microsoft operating systems and related hardware to PC builders, as well as to its more than 1000 dealers nationwide.

This includes Windows 95, 98, NT and 2000 , as well as products such as Microsoft`s keyboard, IntelliMouse, Tracker Mouse, and Tracker Wheel Mouse.

Carlos Vizcarra, CEO of Compucomp, said the Microsoft distribution deal extends the company`s product range and better-positions it as a one-stop shop for its growing dealer base. "Besides supplying our dealer base with these Microsoft products, we will also be targeting the PC builder," said Vizcarra. He said he believes the new Microsoft range is "an exceedingly important line to carry" and is also "another step in the right direction" for the company - especially as it comes hot on the heels of Compucomp being appointed as a distributor of the LG range of PCs, monitors, CD-ROMs, CD rewritable recorders and DVD ROMs.

"I believe we now have a powerful line-up of products, both hardware and software. The Microsoft product line is also naturally a volume range and one that suits the top and middle sectors of the local market - as well as the increasingly important consumer and SOHO (Small Office Home Office) markets," said Vizcarra.

Vizcarra also said his company has the right experience and infrastructure, including seven branches around SA and more than 1000 dealers, to enable it to leverage "maximum penetration" to the Microsoft products as a newly-appointed sub-DSP.

Compucomp has branches in Johannesburg, Pietersburg, East London, Cape Town, Port Elizabeth, Durban, and George.

The Auwa range of PCs and laptops is owned by Compucomp.
