Compucomp moves into DVD market with LG Electronics range

As part of its ambition to become a one-stop shop for its more than 1000 nationwide dealers, leading distributor, Compucomp, has diversified into the computer accessories distribution market with the announcement that it is to supply the eight-speed DVD ( Video Disk) from LG Electronics.

Although the company is better-known for its own brand of Auwa PCs and laptops, Compucomp was recently appointed as the second local distributor for LG Electronics, which is making a concerted effort to become one of the main computer suppliers to the SA market.

In terms of the distribution agreement, Compucomp is responsible for the distribution of LG`s entire IT range, including a wide range of accessories, its monitors and its newly-launched PC range.

Although there is still a market for CD-ROMs, more users - particularly in the gaming market - are opting for top-end DVDs, such as LG`s 8-speed DVD, in order to take advantage of the latest technology.

By installing a TV output card a user can play a DVD video on their television set. Currently DVDs are finding favour among serious home users, mostly for entertainment. But Compucomp believes the corporate market will also start opting for DVDs, rather than CD-ROMs.
