Compuscan to cycle 202km for CANSA

Johannesburg, 09 Oct 2012

On 24 November, 12 Compuscan cyclists will be taking on the gruelling 202km Coronation Double Century cycle race in support of the Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA).

The event, now in its 20th year, sees 200 cycling teams of between six and 12 cyclists battle it out across some of the most treacherous trails the Western Cape has to offer. The route is well known by cyclists as presenting several challenging climbs in the first 60km of the race, such as that of Tradouw Pass and Op de Tradouw - making successful completion a true feat.

In addition, as the race takes place in November, it encourages male entrants to grow their moustaches in support of Movember, which aims to change the face of men's health by raising awareness around issues such as prostate cancer.

This year, Compuscan decided to not only enter a team of cyclists into the race, but to also use the event as an opportunity to support CANSA. As such, all male cyclists will be sporting their Movember moustaches. In addition, all cycle kits, accommodation and entry fees of Compuscan cyclists, as well as the emergency vehicle, are being sponsored by Compuscan.

Compuscan also invites all its clients and the public to "sponsor" a cyclist per kilometre of the race. Individuals and organisations can choose to sponsor as many cyclists as they wish and select the fee they are willing to donate per kilometre of the race. For example, should you choose to sponsor one cyclist at R2 per kilometre, the total sponsorship will amount to R404, as the race is 202 kilometres.

Another option is for consumers or organisations to sponsor a once-off amount not linked to any cyclist. In addition, all organisations that sponsor more than R1 000 will then have their logos appear on the Compuscan Web site and all proceeds raised will go directly to CANSA.

If you would like to get involved and sponsor a cyclist, you can contact Compuscan's marketing department at marketing@compuscan.co.za. Click here to view the cyclists and sponsor page.
