Computer Associates advises of two new e-mail worms

Johannesburg, 21 May 2001

Computer Associates International, Inc. (CA) has advised of two new email worms, VBS.Mawanella (also known as VBS/VBSWG.Z.Worm) and VBS.Homepage.B (also known as VBS/VBSWG.XA.Worm). CA is classifying these variants as medium risk because of their ability to propagate via Microsoft Outlook.

Mawanella and Homepage.B were generated with the VBS Worm Generator Kit, similar to the one used to create the Anna Kournikova worm in February.

CA`s award winning InoculateIT antivirus solution already detects VBS.Homepage.B and VBS.Mawanella under the name VBS/Worm.Variant. Specific detection by name will be available in the next signature release. Additional information is available at http://ca.com/virusinfo.
