Computer Associates and Caldera Systems announce agreement to deliver eBusiness training

By Computer Associates Africa
Johannesburg, 27 Oct 2000

Computer Associates International, Inc. (CA), and Caldera Systems, Inc., a leader in developing and marketing successful Linux-for-business solutions have announced an agreement to create and deliver instructor-led courses and computer-based and Web-enabled content as part of Caldera`s OpenLinux Solutions Series. This series provides eSolutions Providers (eSPs) with a comprehensive enterprise-ready training solution for global businesses. eSPs can be VARs, ISPs, ASPs, consultants, IS professionals-any organization that provides eBusiness solutions to customers.

Under the agreement, Caldera will increase its curriculum offerings through instructor-led and Web-enabled courses created by CA. These courses fill a void within the Linux marketplace for solutions-based training.

"eLearning is the next logical step in CA`s quest to deliver faster, easier, better ways to learn," said Terri Seppala, senior vice president, worldwide education, CA. "Caldera`s OpenLinux Solution Series-powered by CA`s eLearning expertise and technology-will open up extensive learning opportunities for an expanded audience worldwide."

CA develops existing client-specific content using its proprietary conversion engine, KnowledgeTRACK. The first course to be developed by CA under Caldera`s OpenLearning education program is SAMBA on OpenLinux - 2: Using OpenLinux as an NT Domain Controller. This course will allow Caldera`s eSPs to leverage OpenLearning at all 206 Provider locations worldwide.

"This relationship is an important step in further establishing Caldera`s OpenLearning Linux education program worldwide," said Michael Ballengee, vice president, business development and strategic alliances, Caldera Systems. "We are pleased to be working with CA to deliver this solutions-oriented training."

Caldera`s instructors are trained and authorized to deliver training through its worldwide OpenLearning Provider education channel. OpenLearning courses support and prepare students for the industry-standard Linux Professional Institute certification exams. Along with its certification courses, Caldera offers Linux solutions courseware.

"Whether students participate in live Web-based, instructor-led classes, or work through on-line lessons at their own pace, the result is the same," said David Acheson, director of education, Caldera Systems. "They`ll learn more, faster, by accessing smaller `chunks` of knowledge whenever they need to learn. By making it easier for employees who run on an OpenLinux platform to access training from their desktops, companies will reduce travel costs and significantly boost productivity."
