Computer Associates International, Inc. has announced that Seiko Precision, a global innovator in the manufacturing of information and engineering products, has selected CA`s Ingres II relational DBMS to support its Linux-based building facilities management system, BUILTALK-LX.
Seiko Precision`s BUILTALK-LX monitors and controls the energy consumption, maintenance administration, security management and environmental control of buildings or building complexes. BUILTALK-LX offers tremendous flexibility by having the capacity to manage up to 300 administration points for small to medium-size buildings.
Seiko Precision`s solution is also a showcase example of how CA`s support for the increasingly popular Linux operating system is being translated into powerful business technology solutions by third-party developers. "Our clients entrust the operation of their buildings to us and we entrust it to Ingres II, CA`s leading database technology," said Masayuki Nakayama, Seiko Precision director: sales department.
In addition to reducing utility and maintenance costs, BUILTALK-LX features other benefits including energy conservation control displays, automated maintenance reporting, and automated billing. System administrators only need to click a mouse to activate the user-friendly, graphical user interface and help screens. By deploying Ingres II, Seiko Precision is improving the operation/control response time of its multifunctional BUILTALK-LX.
"The extensive integration and environment-development capabilities, along with the database engine of Ingres II, convinced us that CA`s technology was the ideal solution for us," added Nakayama. "Ingres II enables BUILTALK-LX to operate with the high maintainability and low management costs that our clients demand."
Ingres II offers a complete solution for n-tier relational application development, connectivity, and true open information access across Windows NT, OpenVMS, Linux, and UNIX platforms.
"Seiko Precision`s BUILTALK-LX demonstrates how the power and flexibility of Ingres II can be harnessed by developers to build highly reliable and adaptable applications that address clear market needs," said Takashi Mitsumori, CA Japan, president. "As the management of complex information resources becomes a more important component of every business discipline, we believe that Ingres II will continue to be the preferred environment for high performance relational database applications."
