Computer Associates ships Aion 9.0, intelligent e-business solution for line-of-business managers

Johannesburg, 06 Dec 2000

Computer Associates International, Inc. (CA) has announced the general availability of Aion 9.0, the company`s unique business rules engine. This latest version enables line-of-business managers to directly and immediately modify application business rules in response to changing business requirements.

By placing this power in the hands of line-of-business managers, Aion 9.0 gives organizations the ability to capitalize on near-term market opportunities, re-engineer business processes, and implement new eBusiness models with unprecedented speed and accuracy. Aion 9.0 also relieves the pressures on already overburdened corporate IT departments by allowing non-technical business personnel to modify their own eBusiness application rules as dictated by changing conditions and/or objectives.

"Responsiveness to change is a key factor for eBusiness success," said Carl Hartman, vice president, brand management. "Unfortunately, complex eBusiness applications can become an impediment to that responsiveness, as it becomes more and more difficult for IT departments with heavy workloads to execute the code changes that business units need. By giving corporate decision-makers the ability to immediately translate their new or revised business into live code themselves, CA`s Aion 9.0 eliminates this primary impediment to change - creating a significant competitive advantage for CA clients."

CA has added a Web interface option to Aion`s existing client/server implementation, making it even easier for organizations to distribute Aion`s eBusiness rules-control capabilities to authorized managers over corporate intranets. Both the browser and desktop client interfaces are highly graphical and intuitive, ensuring Aion`s usability by business users.

Aion has also been enhanced through integration with CA`s Neugents and Jasmineii eBusiness platform. Neugents, which delivers real-time predictive intelligence to eBusiness applications, can be called from within an Aion application to supply a prediction. Conversely, Aion rules can be used to drive actions based on Neugents` predictions.

Through the integration with Jasmineii, Aion applications can now tap into a new range of databases, applications, objects and services - adding its unique brand of rules-based intelligence to each of them. Aion components can also be accessed through Jasmineii, so that any development tool or client supported by Jasmineii - including those written in HTML, XML, Java, C++ or Visual Basic - can now take advantage of Aion functions.

Aion 9.0 also integrates with other third-party development technologies and tools, such as IBM ` s MQSeries, facilitating its use in a wide range of existing eBusiness application environments.

Other Aion 9.0 enhancements include:

  • flexible "dynamic decision tables" to simplifying the creation of business rules involving multiple parameters

  • improved rule change management and editing

  • embedded component debugging to ensure code quality

  • upgraded COM object management

  • simplified remote deployment for multi-location intranets

  • enhanced Aion ` s inference engine functions and performance

More than 5,000 clients in industries such as insurance, banking and manufacturing - including 75 percent of Fortune 100 Companies - currently use Aion to accelerate time-to-market, ensure the quality of their object-oriented applications, leverage both internal and external knowledge bases, and facilitate the continuous updating of critical business systems.

Aion 9.0 is available under CA ` s new simplified licensing model.
