Computerworld cites three SAS customers for excellence in business intelligence

Health Care Service, Plano Independent School District and Whirlpool are finalists for "Best Practices in Business Intelligence".

SAS customers Health Care Service, Plano Independent School District and Whirlpool were named as finalists in the "Best Practices in Business Intelligence" awards programme. They were honoured on Wednesday at Computerworld's Business Intelligence Perspectives, the premier conference for leaders in the business intelligence and IT management sector.

The award identifies excellence among users of business intelligence solutions and approaches. Honourees attended a ceremony at the Green Valley Ranch Resort in Las Vegas.

Health Care Service (HCSC), which operates the Blue Cross and Blue Shield plans in Illinois, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas, was selected for its industry-leading healthcare fraud detection solution that offers advanced analytics and prediction. This practice has netted a 50% increase in the number of new cases identified and decreased the false-positive rate to negligible levels. HCSC collaborated with SAS and IBM to integrate the predictive analytics of SAS Enterprise MinerTM into IBM's Fraud and Abuse Management System.

Plano Independent School District was recognised for its implementation of SAS Business Intelligence software, which has customised reporting and analytics, and has enabled the district to provide unmatched resources to staff and parents for managing a challenging process: individual student achievement. The solution integrates separate data sources and uses predictive analytics to optimise performance management, human capital and financial management to improve student success.

Whirlpool was acknowledged for applying SAS Enterprise BI Server with SAS Warranty Analysis, SAS Enterprise Guide, SAS Data Surveyor for SAP and SAS Text Miner. The use of these solutions supports Whirlpool's desire to drive customer loyalty by gaining a better understanding of warranty and related issues for fast resolution. SAS' software enables Whirlpool to quickly identify and act on problems that lead to customer dissatisfaction.
