CompuVisa and n-Time team up to provide Gigabit solution for Ericsson

Johannesburg, 30 Nov 1999

In a project to upgrade its network to a Gigabit backbone valued at close to R1-million, Ericsson SA selected CompuVisa to supply and install 3ComCoreBuilder9000 network products. CompuVisa is a network solution provider boasting the skills of several MCSE, CNE and UNIX certified staff, providing networking solutions to corporate clients.

With the installation at Ericsson, CompuVisa technical director Sinisa Kokot elected to bring in the specialised skills of n-Time to handle the 3Com CoreBuilder 9000 equipment. N-Time is the specialist networking company within MB Worksoft, part of the listed MB Technologies group. "We chose n-Time because the of the highly specialised nature of this equipment," says Kokot. According to him, n-Time is one of a select few companies that have the skills of certified CoreBuilder engineers.

Kokot says that n-Time was selected as the sub-contractor because of the reputation of the company within the industry. "n-Time has a very professional top management structure. This, coupled with perfect customer care and top technical skills made n-Time the ideal for CompuVisa on this installation," he says.

Project manager for Ericsson Mbuso Bhengu says that the company opted to upgrade its network with 3Com CoreBuilder switches because the legacy network was operating on 3Com products. "Since our network was already running on 3com it made sense for us to migrate to higher specc`ed 3Com switches," he says. Bhengu adds that the CoreBuilder 9000 units, 3Com`s top network offering, were selected as the components of choice because of the redundancy characteristics.

"The installation was well planned with the engineers from n-Time and CompuVisa providing excellent support and planning at all stages of the implementation," he continues.

Four CompuVisa engineers and two n-Time engineers handled the project at Ericsson, which Kokot describes as very successful. "Because the installation was well planned, Ericsson had uptime on their mission critical functions at all times. The entire installation was completed in a single day," he concludes.
