Compuware Corporation has announced the availability of Abend-AID Release 9.5 and Abend-AID for CICS Release 4.5, software-testing technologies that improve the quality of mainframe applications.
Created by a combination of two words, abnormal end, an abend is a fault in which an abnormal termination of a computer program occurs as a result of a programming or application error, which can cause a system crash.
With mainframe systems still widely used by South African businesses, Compuware product manager, Paul Wandrag, notes that there remains an active market for analysis tools.
"The Abend-AID toolset thoroughly analyses the causes of application program failures across a broad range of mainframe environments. With Abend-AID, programmers receive an immediate, detailed analysis of application program errors in a clear and logical format," he says.
Its automated approach to program error resolution eliminates the need to rely on time-consuming, repetitive methods to resolve errors in mission-critical applications when customer service could be at risk.
Enhancements introduced into Abend-AID 9.5 include enhanced viewing facility navigation, providing faster access to reports, hotkey command enhancement, and `point and shoot` navigation, enabling users to quickly find the information they need. Furthermore, the technology incorporates source support for COBOL file definitions.
Abend-AID for CICS, formerly CICS Abend-AID/FX, analyses the causes of application and region faults, enabling programmers to resolve critical problems for customers and users, regardless of the system`s complexity or new technology.
CICS (Customer Information Control System) is an online transaction processing program from IBM that, together with the COBOL programming language, is the most common set of tools for building customer transaction applications in the mainframe environment.
Whether it`s a transaction abend, storage violation, application deadlock, or system outage, Abend-AID for CICS ensures that programmers have immediate, online access to vital information.
