Comshare has announced the new release of its popular budgeting application, Commander BudgetPlus. The release exploits Oracle, the industry-leading relational database.Gavin Steinberg, manager of SPL`s financial applications team, says independent surveys have shown that financial executives around the world believe the way they budget is a big problem. "Thirty-five leading corporations have now taken steps to make budgeting easier, save money and improve the quality of their planning process by selecting Comshare`s Commander BudgetPlus software application," he says.Commander BudgetPlus is a client/server software package for enterprise budgeting. The new enterprise budgeting package is now serving customers in the consumer goods, financial services, utilities, manufacturing and services industries, including corporations such as Palabora Mining, Lockheed Martin, Coty, MicroTouch, Harris Bank, PacifiCorp, Lender`s Service, TrizecHahn, Sunoco Retail and Perrier Group of America.Budgeting and planning applications are logically one part of a network of decision support applications which includes budgeting, forecasting, sales analysis, financial consolidation and performance analysis (or EIS). In Comshare`s packaged applications, a common multidimensional database structure can serve the entire network of applications. The common structure provides managers across departments and at different levels with easy access to consistent information. "Providing BudgetPLUS on Oracle not only opens new markets to Comshare and SPL, but provides our customers with a choice of technologies, tailored for their organisation. This choice, coupled with Comshare`s 30 years of experience in providing budgeting applications to our customers, will jump-start our clients` transformation of the budgeting process into a competitive advantage," Steinberg says. The new release of Commander BudgetPlus follows the announcement earlier this year of Comshare`s strategic marketing and development agreement with Oracle to offer Comshare`s decision support applications on Oracle databases.Comshare developed this release using the Comshare Application Architecture (CAA), the technology that is the basis for all the company`s applications.Dave King, chief technology officer for Comshare, says: "The CAA is a common architecture that provides a versatile and agile environment for application building. This robust architecture and set of product capabilities allow us to quickly develop applications and move to new platforms, operating systems and feeder systems our customers require, without changing the entire application. The use of CAA`s three-tier architecture will insulate Comshare clients from the march of technology."Commander BudgetPLUS is an integrated budgeting, analysis and reporting application designed to improve a corporate budgeting team`s productivity, shorten the budget cycle and allow companies to create budgets that support management objectives. "Both the relational and multidimensional versions of BudgetPLUS include the benefits of our guided analysis techniques, such as advanced hierarchical exceptions, Detect & Alert and Overview," continues King. Comshare has specialised in financial applications such as budgeting for many years and has a wide range of customers around the world who use its budgeting and consolidated applications. The Enterprise Systems Division of SPL is the exclusive South African distributor of the Comshare range of executive information and decision support systems.
