Comverse, the supplier of value-added solutions to mobile and fixed-line operators, has announced support for the second phase of the Wireless Intelligent Network (WIN2) IS-826 signalling protocol. IS-826 provides CDMA/TDMA carriers with improved network efficiency, increased system capacity and support for international roaming.
Howard Woolf, president of Comverse Intelligent Networks, said: "We believe that the future of prepaid service is closely tied to the future of intelligent networks (IN). IS-826 has come of age as a definitive IN standard, one that can support efficient service delivery to wireless users. Comverse is pleased to be one of the pioneers in the delivery of this technology."
This announcement underscores Comverse`s ongoing support for CDMA/TDMA carriers around the world. In particular, Comverse`s support for WIN2 will encourage carriers to offer additional prepaid value-added services and features, such as roaming, while increasing existing system capacity and efficiency as a result of the reduced usage of voice ports. Reliance Infocom of India is one of the first to deploy Comverse`s WIN2 system for prepaid services on its CDMA2000 network.
Wireless Intelligent Network and WIN2 IS-826
Wireless Intelligent Network is a concept being developed by the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), and is intended to extend intelligent network (IN) capabilities into wireless networks. WIN is currently being embraced by wireless providers because it facilitates roaming, and will enable a graceful evolution to an IN without making current network infrastructure obsolete. WIN2 is part of Comverse`s commitment to IN, which includes implementation of Camel 2, WIN1 and multiple implementations of IMAP on the company`s platforms.
IS-826 is the second phase of WIN, and allows enhanced capabilities to be added to existing ANSI-41-based networks within an open system environment, thus ensuring interoperability with multiple vendor products and services.
Comverse`s modular, technology-independent prepaid solution offers scalability to support millions of subscribers and seamlessly integrates into networks composed of multi-vendor switches implementing GSM/CDMA/TDMA technologies, separately or in mixed environments. Additionally, Comverse offers a rich set of service features allowing the operator to provide prepaid subscribers with the same level of service and features as postpaid users, ensuring a high ARPU from the prepaid users. Comverse prepaid is adaptable to virtually any signalling environment, whether it is intelligent network (IN) or pre-IN based. Comverse has deployed prepaid systems in more than 60 networks in 50 countries and supports more than 45 different languages and currencies.
