Comverse, the supplier of cellular software applications to MTN and Vodacom and to over 33 operators throughout Africa, has won contracts at all five service providers in Nigeria.
Comverse has already supplied voicemail to MTN Nigeria; voicemail, pre-paid and SMS services to RelTel; voicemail and SMS to Econet; and recently awarded contracts to supply voicemail and SMS to Nitel, and is the process of finalising voicemail and pre-paid to Starcomms.
There are in excess of 800 000 cellular users in Nigeria covering GSM and CDMA WLL platforms.
With a total population of 150 million people, and only 1% of its people having access to a telephone, Nigeria is a potentially lucrative cellular market.
Comverse (SA) MD Stuart Eveleigh said the company`s success is based on proven systems, long-term support and commitment to after-sales support.
"We provide satellite support to customers throughout Africa, which enables our support teams to become proactive in terms of identifying problems and resolving issues before they affect the end-user.
"In addition, we believe our success is also based on the fact that we offer service providers methods for enhancing average revenue per user (ARPU), offering attractive and intuitive services that are able to differentiate operators in what has become a highly competitive market," he explained.
