IT systems and communications distributor Comztek has been named as the 2004 Symantec Business Development Distributor of the Year for Africa. This is the second year running that Comztek has received the Distributor of the Year award from Symantec.
The award was presented to Nadine Barnard, Comztek`s Symantec product manager, at the recent Symantec EMEA Distributors Conference in Rome.
Heinz Stephan, director for products and technologies at Comztek, attributes the award to Comztek`s ability to add value for its channel partners and the Symantec brand.
"We are extremely honoured to have received an accolade of this magnitude. It underscores the strength of our relationship with Symantec, which we have nurtured over the years and this translated into real benefits for our customers," he says.
Stephan points out that Comztek has certified all its sales executives on the full range of Symantec products, boosting its ability to meet the needs of the channel.
"This is an important initiative, as security becomes an ever-increasing priority within organisations," he adds.
Barnard comments: "Security awareness in the South African market has become a serious business concern for small, medium and large enterprises. It is therefore critical for our resellers to have access to the correct skills and support from their preferred distributor."
Patrick Evans, regional manager for Africa at Symantec, says Symantec selected Comztek for this prestigious award because Comztek has helped to position the Symantec product range as a leading brand in the local marketplace, and has ensured continuity of supply through the channel.
"Comztek is today the largest distributor of Symantec products in Africa. However, the award was presented to Comztek for its qualitative rather than just its quantitative performance, as well as its mix of broad line (anti-virus and consumer) and high-end security products business. With help from Comztek, SA was the leading overachiever on the HESP ( High End Security Products) performance in the whole of the EMEA region," he explains.
This is the second time in as many weeks that Comztek has won a distributor of the year award. The first was the 2004 3Com Distributor of the Year, which Comztek also claimed last year.
