LAN Design, MB Technologies` distribution company, has been bought by Comztek, following negotiations that started in November.

The deal, signed on Friday with support from the Mustek group, will see selected distribution rights for the LAN Design set of products ceded to Comztek, which will negotiate distribution agreements with the various vendors.

LAN Design will continue to operate as a single entity under the Comztek umbrella, and will retain its brand.

Comztek says there is very little product overlap, and most of LAN Design`s employees will be relocated to Comztek`s offices.

Paul Conradie, MD of Comztek, says consolidation in the distribution market was essential and this development means that greater economies of scale can now be achieved.

"Comztek and LAN Design together can present the reseller market with an unrivalled offering with Comztek`s technical support and service enhancing LAN Design`s software brands and expertise.

"Although Comztek has always been strong in the networking arena, LAN Design`s loyal reseller base with its strong SME [small and medium enterprise] presence will definitely strengthen our position. In turn, the LAN Design resellers are now able to offer their clients Comztek`s service value-adds, allowing them to move higher up in the supply chain," adds Conradie.

"We are working closely with Comztek to ensure the transition is as seamless as possible and that everyone can quickly reap the benefits of this transaction," says Tarsus MD, Guy Whitcroft.
