Microcom, the communication device manufacturing company, has returned to SA with a wide-ranging product portfolio incorporating ISDN, analogue and ADSL modems.
Comztek - one of SA`s most influential distributors in the local systems, software and communications market - will distribute the full Microcom range exclusively in SA and develop the market for the products in sub-Saharan Africa.
In addition, Comztek has awarded Incredible Connection exclusive rights to retail Microcom modems throughout SA. The product offering has been named as the franchise stores` `branded modem of choice`.
Ronny Russell, Microcom business development manager at Comztek, says Microcom fills the gap left by US Robotics` departure from SA.
"We have embarked on an aggressive drive to advise the channel and end-users that Microcom is back in the country and that this new product range is the `brand name to have`," he says.
Comments David Hirsch, merchandising executive at Incredible Connection: "We chose to retail the Microcom range because its has a very healthy reputation globally, offers a comprehensive range of communication devices, and comes with a solid support structure in the form of Comztek.
"Incredible Connection has the public`s best interests at heart and has ensured that all Microcom modems sold through the retail chain stores are Telkom and ICASA approved. The Microcom range will be offered with full service and support linked via the serial number."
In addition, Comztek will distribute a full range of entry-level networking products, from Network Interface Cards (NICs) to 10/100 five-port, eight-port and 16-port switches, to be followed by additional products. The Microcom range will be supplied with a comprehensive support structure and a two-year swap-out warranty.
The Microcom leased-line product range presents an equivalent offering to the currently available courier modems, including V.92 protocol, voice and security functionality. However, this range also offers an `always connected`, secure and simple user interface, while additional functionality is available in the `dial and call-back` profile.
"Microcom is renowned for its ability to develop modem technology designed for markets with specific requirements. Microcom is the number one selling modem in Central and Eastern Europe as well as the Mediterranean, and we anticipate a similar response from the southern African market," Russell concludes.
