AST`s ladies four-ball golfing team was the winner of Comztek`s annual ladies golf day hosted by the communications systems distributor.
The second event of its kind took place again at the Centurion Country Club on 14 October 2003 and was sponsored by, 3Com, MGE, Microsoft, Nortel Networks, Novell and Symantec.
A field of 57 golfers competed in the challenge, which provided a day`s entertainment to Comztek`s female resellers as well as an opportunity for the players to pamper themselves.
Each competitor was given a gift hamper comprising a book on home spas and bath oils and creams, and was treated to a massage after the game. Prizes awarded to the ladies included Carol Boyes spoons, terry-cloth gowns, and vouchers for spa treatments and further pampering.
Comztek hired golf professionals to get proceedings under way at the first and tenth holes. Each of the players could `purchase` a ball teed off by a professional - R550 was collected, which was finally awarded to one winner.
Corlette Wessels, general manager at Comztek Retail, introduced the latest range of Microsoft retail products to the women, who expressed a great deal of interest in the initiative.
Leen van der Bijl, Comztek chairman, was the only man to participate in the event, as he was the master of ceremonies for the evening function: a Thai dinner.
In addition to the prizes and gifts for the golfers, Comztek hosted the traditional two watering holes and provided roving drinks carts, caddies and lunch at the halfway mark for everyone.
Says Jenny-Lee Williams, marketing manager at Comztek: "Next year we hope to have more players involved. Many of the ladies at this year`s event said that they thoroughly enjoyed being able to play at their own pace without being rushed by players behind them - and they indicated they would be back."
