Concord advances BSM strategy with enhanced application performance management capabilities

Sierra Health Services leverages Concord`s end-to-end IT management software to deliver maximum customer satisfaction
Johannesburg, 27 Oct 2004

Concord Communications, a global leader in business service management (BSM) software solutions, today announced a new milestone in its strategy to deliver comprehensive infrastructure management capabilities to the enterprise and service provider markets.

With a new version of its flagship eHealth Suite, Concord extends its ability to manage the performance of both custom and packaged applications across all platforms - Windows, Web and Java environments.

Building on its historical strength in network management, the extended application performance management (APM) capabilities enable Concord`s customers to truly manage their business services from end-to-end - including networks, systems and applications.

Putting Concord`s BSM vision into practice is Sierra Health Services, an innovative provider of healthcare services. Widely recognised for its quality patient care, Sierra Health is leveraging its IT infrastructure to deliver unsurpassed customer service. With more than a dozen clinics within the Las Vegas valley, Sierra Health serves more than 1.2 million patients with a full range of healthcare services.

To increase the efficiency of service delivery and heighten customer satisfaction, Sierra deployed an electronic medical record solution called TouchWorks - developed by Allscripts Healthcare Solutions - that provides all clinics with paperless access to patient records in a centralised database. Patients are guaranteed the same level of care regardless of where it is delivered, allowing the firm to cut costs by reducing paperwork duplication.

Using Concord`s eHealth Suite, Sierra Health is able to ensure the availability and performance of this business-critical application for more than 600 users.

"Running complex applications can be tricky," states John Meyer, director of information systems architecture at Sierra Health Services. "With such an important application in an enterprise environment, the right management solution is imperative to maintaining optimal performance. Concord`s software gives us a view into the actual experience of our end-users and helps us manage all components of our IT infrastructure - the application, servers and network links. By ensuring our IT infrastructure delivers peak performance, we deliver strong support for our care providers, and help drive our business forward."

BSM strategy drives APM enhancements

Earlier this year, Concord unveiled its business service management strategy and launched its first solution in support of the initiative - the Business Service Console. The company continues to execute against this core strategy by delivering enhancements to its application performance management (APM) capabilities.

Concord`s eHealth Suite manages the availability and performance of the entire business service, from the applications, to the systems, to the network.

Without this end-to-end view of the entire IT infrastructure, organisations are only managing devices without measuring the end-user experience and managing the complete business service. With the new release of Concord`s eHealth Suite, customers can better manage mission-critical IT applications across a wide range of platforms and network architectures. The new eHealth Suite augments Concord`s proven network and systems management capabilities to enable organisations to understand and improve the quality of key business services relied upon to run profitable businesses.

"Business service management is a critical component of aligning business strategy with IT infrastructure. Integrating applications, network and system management into one solution provides IT managers with a tool set for managing the availability and performance of the entire business service," said Frank Kettenstock, vice-president of product marketing at Concord Communications.

"Our new eHealth Suite delivers enhanced application management to ensure high performance and responsiveness of the whole IT infrastructure to drive value for the entire business."

For successful management of integrated IT systems and networks that includes application performance, the new release of Concord`s eHealth Suite includes the following features and benefits:

* Enhanced end-user experience mMeasurement: Enables IT management to measure application response based on actual end-user experience for a broader set of applications, including new capabilities for client-side Java in addition to Windows and the Web-based applications.

* E-mail management support: Enhances the ability to manage and support additional applications, such as Microsoft Exchange 2003, in order to ensure high performance and availability of the exchange server.

* Accelerated implementation: Simplifies deployment of the eHealth Suite for quicker time to value.

In addition to new support for custom applications, including client-side Java-based applications, Concord is also adding management support for certain packaged applications. Today, the company also announced a strategic alliance with a major CRM application vendor, including support for that vendor`s market-leading application (see separate press release). By delivering support for packaged applications, Concord is extending customers` ability to manage all business services, regardless of platform or application type.

The new version of Concord`s eHealth Suite, version 5.7, will be available in November. For pricing, contact the company at www.concord.com.
