Concord releases VOIP management solution

Johannesburg, 17 Nov 2003

Concord Communications has announced what the company is calling "a significant industry milestone" by providing a comprehensive management solution for voice over Internet Protocol (VOIP) - and according to IDC analysis, it`s a market that will grow 45% annually to reach a revenue base of $15.1 billion by the year 2007.

The release of the newest version of Concord`s flagship software product, eHealth Suite version 5.6.5, provides an integrated end-to-end management solution for VOIP, quality of service (QoS) and the underlying IT network. Additionally, Concord has announced that eHealth for Cisco CallManager, part of the eHealth Suite 5.6.5, has met the Cisco AVVID (Architecture for Voice and Video Integrated Data) Partner Programme test criteria.

Concord`s SA Country Manager Iain Goodway said 5.6.5 would add to Concord`s growing reputation in the sub-Saharan African market as a leader in optimising application availability and performance across networks and systems.

"The key to VOIP management is to integrate management of VOIP, QoS and the IT network, in both pre-deployment and post-deployment environments. This allows customers to understand the relationships between the network, the QoS policies and the VOIP devices as well as how they affect the quality and availability of your VOIP service," said Goodway.

For successful management of a network that includes VOIP, Concord has extended its capabilities with the following VOIP offerings:

* eHealth for Cisco CallManager: This product enables IT management to conduct comprehensive monitoring, management and reporting on the Cisco CallManager system.

* eHealth Voice Quality Monitor: This product provides real-time detection of voice quality problems, and can assess VOIP quality regardless of network and IP telephony vendor. eHealth Voice Quality Monitor is essential during pre-deployment to ensure adequate provisioning of the underlying VOIP network infrastructure.

* eHealth Integrated VOIP reports: These reports draw on data from disparate sources in the IT infrastructure, delivering VOIP specific service and health reports for a wide audience.

Concord joined the Cisco AVVID Partner Programme as an IP telephony participant with eHealth for Cisco CallManager assuring optimal IT infrastructure management to enterprise customers.

"The programme sets criteria for interoperability testing by independent third-parties and enables leading product and services firms to deploy innovative business solutions," Goodway explained. "We provide enterprise customers with information regarding Cisco AVVID partner products and services that an independent testing facility has tested and found to interoperate with Cisco networking technology."

Research on VOIP conducted by META Group reveals that users planning IP telephony deployments must plan and deploy management concurrently with the actual planning and deployment of the telephony technology itself. Management as an afterthought is unacceptable, said META director Glenn O`Donnell.

Additional enhancements to the eHealth Suite include:

* eHealth Application Response: Enhancements to Concord`s market leading observational response solution include new reports for summarising application performance by application or groups, and enhancements to agent management and scalability.

* eHealth Service Availability: Enhancements to Concord`s active response solution include support for class of service and enhanced support for e-mail and HTTP active testing.

* Financial reporting in TopN Reports: Enhancements to TopN Reports that calculate financial impacts of unavailability or response degradations.

* Platform support for Microsoft Windows 2003.
