Sindi Zilwa has resigned as a non-executive director, because of a conflict of interest, says Business Connexion (BCX).

The company says the conflict is with a “current client”, but does not provide further details.

Zilwa, whose resignation was effective from 14 October, joined the board in April. She is CEO of auditing firm Nkonki and, in 1990, became the second black woman chartered accountant in SA.

In 1998, she was nominated as SA's Businesswoman of the Year by the Executive Women's Club. A year later, she was nominated as one of the Top 20 Business People in SA.

In 2001, she was nominated as one of the Top 10 Business Personalities in SA by the Black Management Forum and Impumelelo Top 300 companies. Last year, she was nominated by African Woman Chartered Accountants Forum as its Woman of Substance for 2008 for her contribution and the significant role she played in the accountancy profession in advancing black women.

Zilwa sits on several other boards, including Woolworths, Discovery, Strate, Aspen and Ethos Private Equity. She is also deputy chairman of the Airports Company of SA.

BCX chairman Tony Ruiters thanked Zilwa for her contribution and wished her well in her future endeavours.
