JSE-listed Connection Group has announced the appointment of Toni Fourie, former MD of Dions and deputy CEO of Mass Discounters, as the new MD of its retail division, Incredible Connection.
The move, which is designed to significantly boost the performance of the group`s retail division, has been described as a "tremendous coup" by Connection Group CEO Pierre Joubert.
Fourie has 18 years retail experience behind him and was responsible for the turnaround at Dions in recent years. His retail experience included spells at Hyperama, Truworths and Makro before he was appointed MD of Dions in 1997. His appointment to the Connection Group is effective from 1 August.
Joubert, who was appointed Connection Group CEO in May, said Fourie`s appointment formed part of the group`s strategy of strengthening its market leadership in retail.
"Over the next year we will focus strongly on developing our retail assets, where our traditional core skills lie. Toni has tremendous dynamism and an outstanding track record in leading teams, even in difficult times. We are confident that he will be able to turn Incredible Connection around," said Joubert.
Outgoing Incredible Connection CEO Malcolm Hyland, who joined Connection Group`s retail division in November last year, has left the group on amicable terms.
"Malcolm did a tremendous amount to consolidate the retail division following a period of rapid expansion last year, and we wish him all the best with his future career," said Joubert.
