Newly-launched Metaware, a subsidiary of JSE-listed Connection Group Holdings, has secured the sole Sub-Saharan Africa distribution rights for Knosys Proclarity, a data visualisation tool from US-based Knosys.
Knosys Proclarity from Knosys - a one-product company - is the first OLAP (On-line Analytical Processing) business analysis application to be built from the ground up around the Microsoft data warehousing framework.
According to Terry McClenchy, MD of Metaware, Knosys Proclarity represents a paradigm shift in the OLAP marketplace because it was previously "a prohibitively expensive application" to deploy as a business intelligence tool throughout an enterprise. "In the past only a few people in a company, such as the the financial director or Sales Director, had access to this tool as the cost of the OLAP servers and desktop clients was punitive."
But McClenchy said the launch of Microsoft SQL Server 7 - with it`s OLAP server - will make business intelligence a pervasive application in many organizations.
"The price/performance of ProClarity, combined with its unique feature set in the Web space will allow companies to deploy the most powerful analysis tools throughout the organisation, and to remote and mobile workers."
He said Knosys Proclarity is three to 10 times more cost-effective than competitive solutions, of which there are an estimated 100 worldwide.
