Connet Systems releases payMOBI

Johannesburg, 27 Jun 2012

Connet Systems has released a version of the mobile payment product, payMOBI, targeted at call centres that need to process debit card transactions in real-time over the phone.

The system exposes secure APIs and Web services to the call centre software that allows an agent to push an encrypted PIN verification message to the customer's cellular phone to authenticate and authorise a transaction.

This payment system is groundbreaking as it provides the call centre industry with the capability of receiving pin-verified, not repudiated payments from a remote customer.

“The vast majority of South Africans do not own credit cards, but do have bank accounts with linked debit cards,” says Brendan White, CEO of Connet Systems. “This massively increases the payment footprint available to direct marketers, collection agencies, support centres or any other contact environment to process or receive payments.

In a pilot study conducted with a collection agency, the agency improved their collections from 40% to 70% due to the fact that instead of processing a “promise to pay” from a client, the agent could now insist on processing a payment immediately via the client's debit card. The agent could easily explain the process to the client, and then dispatch the pin request once the client understood and was at ease with the mechanism. Once the correct PIN is entered by the client, the funds are immediately transferred to the merchant account held by the agency.

Clients do not need access to Internet or telephone banking, nor do they need to make deposits into a mobile wallet or any other payment system. The Connet Systems payMOBI payment system effectively turns each client's cellphone into a mobile point of sale device, which is safe, secure and supported by most of the major retail banks.

The system does not require a smartphone and effectively works on nearly all handsets in the market, without provisioning requirements. The same rules that apply to normal debit cards transactions (such as daily limits) apply to the payMOBI system.

While this version is aimed specifically at the call centre industry, it is possible to integrate nearly any communication platform to handle payMOBI payments.

Connet Systems is a leading developer of mobile services and systems specialising in SMS, USSD, mobile payments, Mobi-sites and mobile marketing and counts some of South Africa's largest companies among its customers.
