This success story began when Leo van Beek, IT Manager with BKS, joined the company in November 1997. After investigation he found that BKS (Pty) Ltd, with 25 offices, eight file servers and 600 workstations, had a communication system which did not meet their requirements.
In February 1998 information workshops were established for department managers to discuss their communication needs. Subsequently a document recommending that the Novell range of products be used was published. Novell Authorized Systems House, Red Star Networks, was appointed by BKS to manage this project. Red Star Networks proposal focuses on Novell`s range of products and includes the installation of GroupWise, BorderManager, ManageWise and ZENWorks.
According to Cobus Burgers, Managing Director of Red Star Networks, GroupWise5.5 is far more than an e-mail package. Together with Workflow Professional, GroupWise provides a scalable and flexible GroupWare Solution. Correctly implemented, true Document Management can be achieved. Justin Foxcroft, Account Manager for Novell, confirms that the emphasis is on a total GroupWare Solution. "Novell Directory Services (NDS) is the key technology component and provides network intelligence within systems. It is a database in which an organisation can define any object within their network irrespective of global or geographic positioning enabling replication and management of data throughout. In other words, Novell Directory Services provides a global directory and single point of administration for GroupWise." says Foxcroft. A recent Gartner Study shows that GroupWise offers the lowest Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) and best return on investment, this would not be possible without NDS.
"One of the reasons we`ve chosen Novell are for their service level agreements", says Van Beek. "BKS have signed a Corporate Licence Agreement with Novell, allowing us to effectively plan, manage and protect our Novell software purchases."
