NetCB Solutions has been appointed as reseller for the Australian-developed ContentKeeper appliance, which limits the amount of administration involved in controlling the type of information accessed via the Internet.
"CIOs are faced with the constant abuse of Internet bandwidth, which is costing many companies thousands of rands a month," says Cobus Burgers, CEO of NetCB Solutions.
Although there have been no formal studies done in SA, Burgers contends bandwidth wastage is a serious problem in any context where employees are allowed access to the Internet.
Burgers says although there are other similar products in the CIO`s arsenal, most need agents on workstations or have to work in conjunction with a proxy server or firewall.
"ContentKeeper not only enables companies to limit the usage of Internet bandwidth, but also decreases the administrative burden associated with blocking non-work-related Web sites by updating its own database dynamically over the Internet and managing itself," he explains.
Burgers claims that once policies are in place, no further modification or configuration is required.
"In addition to limiting the wastage of bandwidth due to non-productive browsing and downloads, ContentKeeper enables managers to predict savings on a daily basis and easily calculate a return on investment," he adds.
