The Convergence Bill, now called the Electronic Communications Bill, should be passed by Parliament by the end of the year, says communications minister Ivy Matsepe-Casaburri.

However, she adds that intricacies and changes might delay it to early next year.

The minister was speaking to ITWeb at the 2005 African ICT Achievers Awards event in Midrand on Saturday.

She stated that the Bill is well written and the fact that it has been fast-tracked also calls for her to sit down and look at it with the ICASA amendment Bill before going forward.
