"Convergence - can technology deliver?" will be the theme of this year`s SATNAC, SA`s premier telecommunication networks and applications conference.
Hosted by Telkom, SATNAC will be held at the Champagne Sports Resort in Central Drakensberg from 12 to 14 September. The conference is co-sponsored by many of the large telecommunication companies.
Panellists from local and international telecommunication operators and vendors will tackle the issue of convergence during plenary sessions and panel discussions.
The conference also features presentations and discussions covering research being carried out by the 15 Telkom Centres of Excellence housed at various tertiary institutions across the country.
One of the main plenary speakers will be Stefano Pileri, Chief Technology Officer of Telecom Italy, which operates one of the most extensive and advanced networks in Europe.
Other plenary speakers and panellists include industry leaders from inter alia BT, Intel and various other major suppliers. As the first plenary day will be of great interest to many people who may not be able to attend SATNAC 2005, the proceedings will be broadcast live on Summit TV (DSTV channel 55) as well as streaming it on the Internet.
The TV broadcast starts at 8.30am on 12 September and will run till 3pm. Between 1pm and 2pm, Summit TV will interview prominent players in the South African telecommunications industry.
