`Convergence kit` set to ease entry into IP telephony

Promotional offers aimed at early adopters in the EMEA region
Johannesburg, 30 May 2001

Avaya, a global leader in corporate networking solutions and services, today announced two bundled `convergence kit` offers that contain everything a business needs to begin to enjoy the benefits of running their telephony and data communications over a single Internet Protocol (IP) network.

The two special promotional offers, which will be available through qualifying business partners across Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA), are priced and targeted at early adopters interested in trying out IP telephony in their enterprise.

They reflect Avaya`s strategy of giving businesses implementation choices as they move to converged networks. Both are based on networking technologies from Avaya`s award-winning Enterprise Class IP Solutions (ECLIPS) portfolio.

Businesses can choose whichever kit best suits their needs - whether they want to opt for a pure-dedicated LAN-based IP system or IP-enable their existing Avaya private branch exchange (PBX):

  • Enterprise Class Convergence Kit (LAN-Based IP Convergence Kit):

At the heart of the solution is the Avaya IP600 Internet Protocol Communication Server - offering full feature rich PBX functionality for companies with 20 to 200 users, but with growth potential over distributed networks spanning multiple sites to expand to over 12 000 IP user end-points (see Notes to Editors); 15 Avaya IP Telephones 4612 (black); 5 Avaya IP Softphones; Cajun P333R stackable switching system. The package contains two days of free training for business partners who commit to certification on IP600 under Avaya`s business partner accreditation programme. The kit will be offered at an introductory price that is about 10% off the normal total list price of the unbundled components.

  • DEFINITY IP Enabling Kit:

This kit provides the best of both worlds by IP enabling existing and new DEFINTY R9 communications servers: providing the reliability, functionality and feature-rich applications of the DEFINITY server with the flexibility and ubiquity of IP networks. It includes: DEFINITY IP Media Processor Circuit Pack; 10 Right To Use (RTU) IP Software licences; 5 Avaya IP Telephones 4612 (black); 5 Avaya IP Softphones. The kit will be offered at an introductory price that is about 25% off the normal total list price of the unbundled components.

Anil Srivastava, Avaya`s Vice President Indirect Channels for EMEA, said, "Organisations of all shapes and sizes are awaking to the considerable benefits of converged networking and eager to try out IP telephony. However, many businesses are wary of new technology and understandably want to test the water before jumping in with both feet.

Our convergence kits offer them the perfect entry point, providing an affordable, easy-to-implement, low risk means of deploying an IP telephony system. Suitable for organisations with 12 or more users, we envisage the technology is ideal for trial in a branch or office department."

Each of the convergence kit promotions will be available through participating Avaya authorised business partners in the major European countries.
