Core data, document and knowledge solutions at Infosmart

Johannesburg, 28 Jun 2001

The Infosmart Africa 2001 conference, taking place from 10 to 12 July at The Dome at Northgate, is a niche forum that aims to deliver strategic solutions for the management of data, documents and knowledge.

"This year`s conference aims to go beyond the general concepts of knowledge management, intellectual assets and human capital, and really arm delegates with practical and proven solutions to ensure their companies` information is a valuable asset with flexible and powerful solutions," says Infosmart project director Traci Freeman.

"The are plenty of technologies on the market aimed at managing and administering the vast amounts of information that companies need to deal with today," continues Freeman.

"Infosmart Africa focuses on the critical solutions and technologies that are going to give organisations a real business advantage. Those that actually extract value from information and offer accessibility. We`ve assembled a really great forum of corporate users, industry experts and world-class suppliers to deliver expert opinion and practical experiences. It`s the only event in the region that focuses exclusively on knowledge management, business intelligence, data warehousing, document management and workflow solutions to maximise the value of organisational and customer information.

"Another key focus of the conference is how business intelligence infrastructures need to integrate and respond to the vast information needs emanating from e-business."

In a keynote presentation, Neil Jacobsohn, CEO of Johnnic e-Ventures, will demonstrate how to recognise value versus commodity in corporate information and share insight on how to correctly invest in information management resources.

The conference also features numerous corporate case studies. Athol Quin, manager of information systems and e-business BMW SA, shares how the company successfully integrated its e-business system into an existing data warehouse and business intelligence system.

Johan Neethling, operations manager at Sanlam, reveals the key success factors and business intelligence technologies implemented to optimise their CRM infrastructure. Eugene Bekker, IT manager at Proctor & Gamble SA, will demonstrate how the company developed the ability so to share knowledge and experience. Colleen Velleman, the enterprise architect of Group IT at ABSA, discusses how the company is developing the data warehouse to a mission-critical status to perform over a diverse set of business needs including e-business, customer centricity and market competitiveness.

Included in the mix of presentations are some interesting panel discussions. Charl Cuyler, senior manager of organisational development at MTN; James van der Westhuizen, MD of Knowhouse; and Marina Hiscock, knowledge management co-ordinator at Sasol, team up to debate how companies can create more value from knowledge and do so quicker than their competition.

Dr Ian Kadish, IT director at Netcare, and Trevor Owen, data resource manager at Vodacom, discuss how companies should anticipate and plan for the ongoing sustenance of corporate data warehouses.

Other topics under the spotlight include the benefits of ASP co-location without compromising effective data management; building corporate information portals and strategically managing their content; and how document management and workflow fit into e-business.

The event is sponsored by Mercedes Datakor and endorsed by the Knowledge Management Society of South Africa and features an exhibition by the region`s leading data, document, knowledge management and business intelligence consultants and suppliers.
