Corex releases new power supply range

Johannesburg, 22 Mar 2005

Corex, a recently launched distributor of PC and peripheral products, has released a new range of power supply products from its principal, Thermaltake.

The Butterfly 480W range consists of two models - the W0019 and W0020 - both delivering a maximum power output of 480 Watts.

The compact units (150x140x860mm) are designed to be used in either a horizontal or upright position (the W0019 and W0020 respectfully) and feature Thermaltake`s proprietary Temperature Control Technology.

This enables the power supply units to operate at their maximum capability while keeping noise levels downs to a quiet 17dBA during normal operation. This is achieved through the active management of the units` cooling systems.

"To further assist the cooling process, the internal cabling is designed in such a way as to optimise the internal airflow," says Matthew Hall, general manager of Corex.

He says a key feature of the Butter W480 range is the use of Serial Advanced Technology Attachment (ATA) interfacing technology, "Compared to earlier technologies (such as Parallel ATA) Serial ATA features a number of enhancements including reductions in voltage and pin count, and lower voltage requirement - 500mV peak-to-peak - which effectively alleviates the increasingly difficult-to-accommodate 5-volt signalling requirement that hampers the Parallel ATA interface," he says.

"In addition, Serial ATA allows smaller, thinner and more flexible cables to replace conventional, wide ribbon cables and eliminate the need for cumbersome 40-pin connectors required by Parallel ATA.

"These small-diameter cables also help improve cooling and will facilitate future designs of smaller PC systems.

"Finally, Serial ATA offers more thorough error checking and error correcting capabilities while supporting faster data transfer rates of up to 300Mbps," he adds.
