Through its distribution agreement with NetManage, enterprise software and Web enablement specialist, Dax Data, is now able to offer access to data stored on mainframe, midrange and UNIX computers from virtually any mobile device.
According to Jeremy Matthews, this development is made possible by an agreement signed between NetManage and Sentica, a leader in wireless convergence. "The deal means that we can now offer customers a software platform that enables wireless devices, including cellular phones, personal digital assistants and pagers, to access corporate data and applications.
"This will allow, for example, a manufacturer to arm salespeople with immediate access to inventory and availability information while on the road, or allow representatives in virtually any industry to access historical data on customers remotely," he says.
Made possible by bundling Sentica`s convergence engine, SenticaXchange, with NetManage`s array of enterprise data and application access products, the deal enables the distribution and interaction with corporate information via any wireless device in the world.
"SenticaXchange goes beyond the limited rendering technologies for mobile devices around today, most of which only allow crude, unreliable, non-scalable and one-way transmission of web sites," explains Matthews. "It captures data from the heart of any application (enterprise application, Internet and Intranet) and provides a mix of media communication interaction to any wireless device."
Sentica customers benefit too, gaining access to NetManage`s OnWeb application integration technology that helps them leverage the investment in legacy information assets, converting existing screen-based applications to HTML or WML on-the-fly, or creating and publishing entirely new e-business applications using legacy data sourced from multiple data stores, he says.
