Any initiative an organisation embarks on should be geared towards the success of the corporate strategy, says Danie Joubert, executive manager at Hulamin.
Joubert will deliver a presentation on how to build a business case for Lean Six Sigma at ITWeb's upcoming Doing More with Less event, being held on 14 April at the Forum in Bryanston.
According to Joubert, if an initiative is not linked to the corporate strategy, to deliver value to the organisation, then it becomes difficult to justify.
If there are no deliberate attempts by organisations towards continuously improving their services and products, someone else will probably step up to the challenge, warns Joubert. Furthermore, if you look to any industry the key aim is to make money and the more the better.
“However, with the recent economic crisis still hanging over our heads, many industries have found themselves in a tight spot where it has been very difficult to expand or grow, forcing them to cut costs drastically in a very short period,” he notes.
This raises the question of how to systematically reduce cost in a sustainable manner, while still improving levels of quality and delivery of products and services
Tackling this challenge, Joubert will highlight the need to understand what the wants to achieve by clearly defining the problem and articulating the goals. He will also compare Lean Six Sigma to other performance management techniques.
